Riot Games tease MSI 2021 location

Riot Games has unveiled the location of the 2021 League of Legends Invitational, without actually naming the location themselves.

An image uploaded to the lolesports media website shows a promotional banner for MSI 2021 with a picture of a city that was quickly identified as Reykjavík, Iceland’s capital.

League live events have suffered, as countless other live events, under the COVID-19 pandemic. MSI 2020 was canceled and the World Championship Finals 2020 was held in front of a select Chinese audience. All other offline tournaments were moved online. This announcement could be the first time in over a year fans have an offline event to look forward to attending.

With most of the world still struggling against the raging pandemic, Iceland has seen very few COVID cases, with just 16 confirmed cases in the last 14 days.

Although nothing more than the picture has been put online, there is no doubt in anybody’s mind that Iceland will be, in fact, the chosen nation for MSI 2021.

Added bonus of holding the event in Iceland is the time zone. The island is uniquely located to cater to many of the time zones, preventing NA or EU fans from having to wake up in the middle of the night to cheer on their favorite teams.

The teaser announcement comes right as most of the teams across the world are starting to clinch their playoff spots in their local competitions.
