Riot Games announces their 10 franchised LCK teams

After announcing that the LCK would become a franchised League next year, Riot Games reviewed applications internally and has now come out with the 10 teams that made it in. Among the participants we find some familiar names, such as the new World Champion DAMWON Gaming and T1.

The LCK is not the first off the bigger League of Legends regions in the world to move to a franchised model. The Chinese LPL was the first major region to make the switch to a franchise model, with the American LCS and European LEC following suit. Ten teams will compete in the newly founded LCK franchised league, with most of the teams from last year returning except for one newcomer.

The LCK Teams:
  • Afreeca Freecs
  • DAMWON Gaming
  • DRX
  • Gen.G
  • Hanwha Life Esports
  • HyFresh Blade
  • KT Rolster
  • T1
  • Team Dynamics
  • Sandbox Gaming

The franchised LCK league will be subject to certain regulations and rules, among them a minimum salary. Riot Themselves have said that they think the LCK might grow in the future, increasing the amount of available team slots to 12 if necessary and feasible.

The LCK is regarded as one of (if not) the best regions in all of League of Legends, reaffirming their dominant position as DAMWON Gaming crowned themselves as Worlds Champions. Earlier they’ve already won five titles ranging from 2013 to 2015, three of them being won by SKT T1. The league is set to start in February, with DAMWON Gaming defending their local title.
