Rainbow Six gets a Collegiate League

Following the variety of collegiate esports leagues that exist for esports such as League of Legends and Hearthstone, Ubisoft has announced an upcoming collegiate league for the United States, together with FACEIT and Corsair.

Rainbow Six Siege has been a growing esports mainstay over the last couple of years. The tactical shooter distinguishes itself from other shooters such as Counterstrike: Global Offensive and Overwatch through its depth. With a strong focus on strategy and slower paced gameplay, it rewards viewers and players who get past the initial learning curve.

Competitive ecosystems in any esport benefit greatly from several layers of competition. By reducing the gap between proplayers and your average ladder hero, you create a constant flow of talent with a clear way to get yourself to the biggest stage. Collegiate leagues have the added benefit of allowing talented players still chase an education, without requiring them to drop out to partake in competitive play.

Acknowledging this, Ubisoft is launching the Ubisoft Collegiate Esports League. The league is organised in cooperation with FACEIT and Corsair and supposedly premiers in January next year. Prospective players will be able to join through an online platform. More information about the competition is expected to follow. Considering the interest in collegiate sports in the US in general, the League should be expected to be very well received.
