Pyra and Mythra join as DLC fighters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Nintendo announced the newest fighters that’ll join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, being Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Pyra and Mythra originate from the Xenoblade Chronicles series and are the newest ones to join Smash after the addition of Shulk, who is the protagonist of the first game in the same franchise. According to the information Nintendo released during the Nintendo Direct, the duo will be joining Smash in March, with more details coming soon. They’ll be part of the second Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass.

Pyra and Mythra count as a single character in the game, with the player being free to switch between them. When it comes to the new fighters pass, Pyra and Mythra join the likes of Minecraft Steve and Alex, Sepiroth from Final Fantasy 7 and Min Min from Arms. In the upcoming months the fighters pass will see two more additional fighters being released, which players will be able to buy in the form of a bundle, or as individual DLC fighters.

Reception to the announcement on social media was mostly mixed. While some of the fans welcomed another piece of the Xenoblade franchise, others were critical of the choice, citing the amount of characters utilizing swords that are already in the game, calling for more creative options in the future.
