PSG Doggo: “I feel very fortunate to be given the chance to participate in MSI 2021. It has been a pleasure to be able to meet so many strong teams and players.”

With the last day of the Rumble stage approaching, PSG Talon has surprised many people at 4-4, being the team to also end RNG’s undefeated streak at the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) 2021.

We spoke to botlaner Chiu “Doggo” Tzu-Chuan on their games and how his experience has been like playing with PSG Talon at MSI.

Commiserations to PSG’s 0-2 day against the two powerhouses in DWG Kia (Damwon) and Royal Never Give Up (RNG), but you guys have definitely been performing better and better. Let’s start it off nice and easy then, talk me through your thoughts on both games you had today.

Doggo: For the match against RNG, we should’ve had a better pick and ban phase, especially the fourth and fifth picks against them. We had some communication issues. The match against Damwon, I don’t think we performed very well. I think I could have done more as well.

I’d like to ask about the differences between RNG and Damwon games, because it seems like PSG had a much closer game against RNG but struggled a lot versus Damwon. Why is Damwon so much more difficult of an opponent for PSG?

Doggo: For the first game it was our side that was controlling the game but we took too long and they snowballed the game later on. Against Damwon, they punished us for our mistake bot-lane due to miscommunication and snowballed hard from there.

That’s fair enough. Since you’ve now played a number of games at MSI 2021, how are you finding the experience and how are you dealing with the pressure that comes with representing the PCS?

Doggo: I feel very fortunate to be given the chance to participate in MSI 2021, and it has been a pleasure to be able to meet so many strong teams and players. It definitely helps me to reflect on my own mistakes and performances, and this helps me to become a better player.

Speaking of great players, which bot-lane duo have you had the most trouble facing so far at MSI 2021?

Doggo: RNG’s bot-lane of Chen “GALA” Wei and Shi “Ming” Sen-Ming for sure, because they are very aggressive!

I’d also like to ask on how quickly you’ve integrated into PSG Talon’s team in such a short amount of time. How have you adapted so quickly in this team? Is it due to communication, or is it because PSG is similar to your team Beyond Gaming?

Doggo: In terms of differences, the PSG players are very friendly and easy to get along with on a daily basis, so it’s not too different from the atmosphere at Beyond. But in regards to the game itself, I think PSG’s overall game knowledge and understanding on the meta is better, and they have multiple ways to approach the game as well.

What is it like playing with Ling “Kaiwing” Kai Wing so far? What are the similarities and differences with your support Chu Wu “Kino” Hsin-Jung in Beyond Gaming?

Doggo: (laughs) I don’t think I feel too much of a difference in playing with Kaiwing, since both supports are also shotcallers. But I think Kaiwing is calmer in-game.

I’d like to get your thoughts on the current bot-lane meta of MSI 2021, at least in regards to marksmen. We’ve seen discussions on how Jinx and Kog’Maw should be more present, but we’re still seeing Kai’Sa and Xayah dominate. Why do you think this is?

Doggo: Kai’Sa is a very versatile pick and Xayah has high survivability, so they kind of cancel each other out. We’re also seeing Tristana but I think she is mechanically difficult to play, her Rocket Jump is especially hard to use. I sometimes use it wrongly and give away free kills, so I think you need to be a bit more careful when picking Tristana.

Last question, now that you’ve tasted the international stage and heard the praises of people worldwide, what are your personal goals for the future?

Doggo: I would like to qualify to the Group stage of the 2021 World Championship.

Thanks for the interview, Doggo!
