New York Subliners round out roster with Diamondcon

Call of Duty League team New York Subliners has added Conor “Diamondcon” Johst to their roster following the retirement of one of their star players in ZooMaa.

Diamondcon is no new name to the Call of Duty scene. He was already active in the academy roster of New York Subliners and will now get his chance to compete on the big stage after solid results in the Challengers Scouting Series. The New York subliners will be looking to compete for the top spots in the league after a rather lacklustre showing in 2020.

One of the veteran players on the New York Subliners roster, James “Clayster” Eubanks, talked about how Diamondcon will fit into the starting roster. “Mack has been trying to run a submachine gun since before this season. This move for Diamondcon allows us to shift Mack to submachine gun and then we need a second assault rifle or third submachine gun player, Con fit that perfectly. It’s not about a direct replacement for Tom, that’s impossible, it’s working with the hand we’re dealt.”

The first outing of Diamondcon on the main roster will be one at the Kickoff Classic, which starts on January 23. There the Subliners take on the Dallas Empire, who came in first during the 2020 Call of Duty League Season.

Thomas “ZooMaa” Paparatto, who plays for the New York Subliners, has announced his retirement as a professional Call of Duty player. The veteran player won’t be competing anymore following a returning injury to his wrist that prevents him from continuing to play at the highest level.

ZooMaa talked about his retirement in a statement he released to Twitter and details the problems he’s facing with his injury. “A few years back while on FaZe, I struggled with weakness in my thumb/wrist and needed surgery. Going through that process of getting healthy again was one of the hardest things I ever had to do both physically & mentally, which led to a lot of stress and anxiety. Unfortunately, the injury has returned making it really hard for me to compete at the highest level against some of the best players in the world.”

During his successful career that spans over seven years, ZooMaa played for some top teams such as Denial Esports, Team Envy, FaZe Clan and OpTic Gaming. In September of 2019 he joined up with the New York Subliners to compete in the CDL together with some other well-known names like Dillon “Attach” Price and Doug “Censor” Martin. His retirement leaves the Subliners roster with only three active players as of now.

ZooMaa closed out his statement with a thank you to his fans, teammates and supporters. “I want to thank all of my fans for supporting me. Without y’all none of this would have been possible and I’ll never forget that. I love every single one of you and look forward to what the future holds.”
