You can now already preload Pokémon UNITE – Here’s how you do it

As Pokémon UNITE will see its official launch tomorrow, you can already preload the game ahead of time. Let’s explain how.

First and foremost, make sure your Nintendo Switch has enough free space available to complete and start the download. You’ll need about 928 MB of free space on your system. You can start the download by using your Nintendo Switch to navigate to the Switch eShop. Once there you’ll be able to search for Pokémon UNITE, which should bring you to the specific page of the game, where you’ll be presented with the option to start the free download.

Aside from being able to play the game for free and having it ready to go when it launches, there’s another reason to make sure you’ve got Pokémon UNITE set up as soon as possible. Everyone who logs into the game before August 31 will get gifted a Zeraora, one of the new legendary Pokémon.

The Switch version is the first one to be released to the masses and we already got to see a glimpse of how it plays during the beta. There’ll also be a mobile version of the game coming to android and IOS devices, but the release date for those games is a little while away, scheduled to release in September.

A year ago Nintendo announced Pokémon UNITE. Now the release of the free-to-play title is almost here. Starting from July 2021 you can take your favourite Pokémon to battle in a MOBA.

While a concrete release date has not been announced yet, speculation points towards the first Friday of July as Pokémon games have traditionally released just before the weekend. The official Twitter account is sure to keep you updated for more details.

The initial release will be limited to the Nintendo Switch, but the developers have also announced September as release month for the mobile versions on iOS and Android.

Pokémon but MOBA

Players in UNITE will face off on different maps featuring three to five players per team. Instead of pushing the enemy base to achieve victory, Pokémon UNITE will have a point system in place. Teams will be able to gather points by fighting and capturing wild Pokémon or defeating their opponents. Legendary Pokémon will also impact the game if they appear. The team with the most points at the end wins the match.

Each player will control a single Pokémon prior to the start of the game. Currently 19 of these starters have been announced, among them fan favourites like Pikachu, Charizard, Snorlax, Ivysaur and more. More starters are definitely in the works as last year’s demo also featured a Blastoise that has not been announced yet.

One of the maps for UNITE is Remoat Stadium on Aeos Island

Currently four maps have been announced, each with different characteristics. Mer Stadium and Remoat Stadium on the Aeos Island are more “classic” MOBA maps, while Shivre City and Auroma Park are more gimmicky.

Five different Roles

The 19 starter Pokémon are spread over five roles: Attacker, Speedster, All-Rounder, Defender, Supporter. UNITE will also feature items for your chosen Pokémon, which also get stronger as you level up. LoL or Dota players will most likely feel very much at home as these elements should be familiar to them.

For fans of custom skins UNITE will also have cosmetics on offer. Examples known so far are Greninja’s Hero Style or Garchomp’s Beach Style.

Skins for your favourite Pokémon
