No Major in spring 2021

No CS:GO world champion has been crowned this year. According to developer Valve, there will not be one in early 2021 either. They apparently canceled the first 2021 major.

The Major planned for May 2021 has been canceled by Valve, according to a report on HLTV.org. Valve sent out a mail to various tournament organizers that projects the next major to be held in fall 2021.

At the beginning of the corona crisis, Valve decided to not organize any further tournaments until the safety of all players and staff members can be ensured. The developer wants to stick to that stance and chooses the more cautious approach, while other developers like Riot held their tournaments only with special safety precautions.

Tournament planned for October 2021

There is a small glimmer of hope for all CS:GO fans out there: The next major is being planned and is supposed to start on October 25th, 2021. The tournament would then start earlier than originally planned.

“We are still disentangling our prior commitments, and currently have both a partner and an EU venue designated for a Major later in 2021”, Valve stated.
