No Fortnite World Cup in 2021

Epic Games has no plans for a Fortnite World Cup in the coming year. Instead of offline tournaments the developer intents to organize online competitions like Trios, weekly cups and Creator Cups.

This year has already been a completely online year in terms of Fortnite competitions as the pandemic made offline tournaments in large-scale venues impractical. Ontheir official site Epic Games now announced that there are no plans for offline tournaments in 2021 – including a potential World Cup.

This leads to Fortnite lacking a conclusive end to their competitive year in 2021. The first Fortnite World Cup had made headlines worldwide in July 2019, when Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf crowned himself the World Champion and became a multimillionaire.

Trios for 2021

In the post Epic Games also announced to introduce Trios as a new constant format in the Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS). The FNCS will largely act as a replacement to the World Cup. With Trios as a new format Epic aims for more stability in the event, but the developers also reserved the right to make adjustemnts to the format.

For some members of the community the announcement was a huge disappointment as they had wished for a different format. But players and fans have largely been content with the direction Epic has been taking the Battle Royale.

More diverse tournaments

The developer also wants to use the chance to showcase different formats to the community. Besides the weekly cups they also plan to host tournaments and Creator Cups that will also feature other formats besides Trios.
