Ninjas In Pyjamas clutch the last playoff spot – ESL Pro League playoffs set

Group D’s top half was decided early as both Gambit and Team Liquid took clear control over the group stage. Day four set up the final day of group D to be a clash between Ninjas In Pyjamas and Furia for the final spot in playoffs. Though Furia won their head-to-head matchup, it was NIP who advanced past the group stage. Now, the ESL Pro League playoffs are set as the twelve teams have earned their spots.

NIP shock Gambit with a 2-0 victory

Ninjas In Pyjamas had a tall task in front of them, facing off against one of the most successful teams of 2021, Gambit. Already locked-in as the top seed in Group D, Gambit have made themselves known as one of the best teams in the tournament. Though contentious one the first map, Ancient, NIP managed an impressive victory.

Though all members shined, especially on Inferno, Fredrik “REZ” Sterner led the pack. REZ finished the series with the highest overall rating (1.25) and total frags (44). After Team Liquid handedly swept Furia, NIP locked in as the final team for playoffs. With a good recent showing, NIP may be poised for a deep run.

ESL Playoffs Preview

With the teams locked in, the ESL Pro League playoffs will kick off this coming Tuesday. Navi, Heroic, OG, and Gambit all advanced past the first round and await their respective opponents in quarters.

As a single elimination bracket, there is no room for error with the remaining teams. The CIS powerhouses of Navi and Gambit are still heavy favorites entering the playoffs. Team Liquid, OG, and Vitality all appear as likely contenders.
