Microsoft will be closing down its streaming platform Mixer on July 22, while moving its streamers over to Facebook Gaming. Partners that signed exclusivity contracts such as Tyler “Ninja” Blevins and Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek will no longer be bound to Mixer and are free to stream on Twitch in the future.
Microsoft invested a lot in Mixer to have it compete with top streaming websites such as Twitch, YouTube and Facebook Gaming, but failed to acquire a bigger share of the market. Even after bringing in top Twitch streamers such as Ninja and Shroud, the platform barely recorded any growth, eventually leading to Microsoft now closing it down.

With Microsoft partnering up with Facebook Gaming, it also means content creators that were partnered on Mixer will be partnered on Facebook Gaming as well. People who are active subscribers to Mixer Pro will be given a Xbox Gift Credit Card worth €15, while regular subscribers to streamers will also receive Xbox credit. Mixer also encourages its streamers to download their VOD’s, as they won’t be available after July 22.
Will Shroud and Ninja return to Twitch?
This also means that some of the biggest content creators and streamers that were bound to Mixer are now free to stream on Twitch again. We’ll most likely see a return of the likes of Ninja and Shroud. Ninja already took to Twitter to explain his position. “I love my community and what we built together on Mixer. I have some decisions to make and will be thinking about you all as I make them.”

Shroud also took to Twitter to speak to his followers after Mixer announced it was shutting down. “I appreciate the Mixer community and everything I’ve been able to do on the platform. I love you guys and am figuring out my next steps.”
