Next year’s Call of Duty to be sequel to 2019 Modern Warfare

Call of Duty Vangaurd is set to release on November 5th. Returning to World War II, Vanguard features a drastically new campaign, multiplayer, zombies, as well as additions to Warzone.

Though fans typically can expect a new Call of Duty released annually, Activision is already making plans for the next installment in the storied franchise. This next CoD will reportedly continue the Modern Warfare saga, picking up where the 2019 title left off.

Rumors have already begun to swirl around features of the unannounced Call of Duty title. Sources have said that key development features could potentially include weapon jamming, a new morality system in the campaign, a revamped AI and more.

Rumors have also claimed that this new, Infinity Ward developed Call of Duty iteration will have horror elements attached to it. Many have described the new concept for the FPS as similar to PT, with inspiration taken from Hideo Kojima.

This would be an incredible departure from the norm of Call of Duty. In the countless titles, the campaign has strictly stuck to classic military shooter conventions, mimicking an action film more than anything. Incorporating horror game elements, while being a drastic divergence, could bring a breath of fresh air for the series.

Nothing has been announced officially about the coming Call of Duty game. With Vanguard so close to being released with plenty of resourcing going into post-launch support, it is unlikely that we will hear anything for quite some time. These rumors will give us plenty to think about though.
