New online CS:GO viewership record set during Navi versus Vitality

CS:GO has been pulling in great amounts of viewers these past few months, as the player base keeps expanding. During the match between NaVi and Vitality at BLAST Premier Global Finals, the online viewership record was broken once again.

The record of highest concurrent viewercount for an online CS:GO match was broken multiple times during the BLAST Premier Global Finals. The new record was set in the match between Natus Vincere and Vitality in the lower bracket finals with over 687.000 viewers. The Grand Final between Astralis and Vitality also scored high in viewership, attracting over 645.000 viewers.

The new record demolishes the old one, which was set during the ESL Pro League Season 12, with (once again) Natus Vincere taking on Astralis in the Grand Final. It does have to be noted that these numbers are records broken for purely online matches. The all-time record for concurrent CS:GO viewers goes to the Grand Final in the ELEAGUE Boston Major 2018, where Cloud9 took on FaZe Clan.

The numbers show that CS:GO is thriving despite its entire competitive scene being forced online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier CS:GO also broke records when it comes to the playerbase, exceeding over a million active users on Steam a couple of months ago. It’ll be interesting to see where the ceiling lies for CS:GO and if this trend continues when the games get to move back to a LAN environment.
