Riot’s fighting game, currently only known as ‘Project L’ is still a ways out from release.
In Riot’s ten year anniversary celebration, the video game company announced a plethora of new titles that would span genres. Since then, games such as VALORANT and Legends of Runeterra have released and thrived in a relatively short amount of time. The Riot fighting game title was teased in the highlight reel of future games and news around the project has been sparse since.
Riot Games’ Tom Cannon gave the first tidbit of information on his Twitter, stating that while “the game is one track with many core systems in place” however also stated that it would be upwards of a year before beta testing is available.
Though this may come as a disappointment to fighting game and League of Legends fans, Cannon did provide some shining beam of hope by stating that a developer update coming near the end of the year would provide more information regarding the project’s status.
Though a public beta may not be released in 2021, news around a large in-person playtest of the Riot fighting game took place in Los Angeles. Attendees of this event were said to be prominent members of the fighting game community. It is unsure of whether or not these closed playtests will continue, but until the developer update it seems that Project L is going dark once again.
