NA DPC Overview – The kings have fallen

Many NA DPC fans were waiting for that one day, where that one BO3 would take place. Where Evil Geniuses and Quincy Crew would face off.

Both teams were so far unbeaten and both teams had the skill to compete at the next major, but only the team that would win this important match would be able to get to the major playoffs in one go. The loser however would have to take second place, only getting them into the major’s group stage.

A Royal Beatdown

The stakes were high, however for many the surprise was even higher. While everyone knew Quincy Crew was on a competitive level with Evil Geniuses, tradition and experience foretold that EG was the heavy favoriete. Nonetheless the upset happened, and it was Quincy Crew who would walk away with a 2-1 victory. A well earned victory at that. Since especially in the third game, one could easily say they manhandled EG. Forcing Arteezy’s Medusa to buy a divine rapier, but being killed by Quincy Crew before he could even get one right click off. Sealing EG’s fate in losing their royal position in the North American DPC, and having to bow down to the stronger Quincy Crew.

The new powerhouse team

However, for many people this upset was not as surprising. Experts like TI5 winner Aui2000 stated that QC’s star mid player Quincy himself had improved dramatically over the past few months. Reaching a mechanical skill level to the likes of Sumail and Abed, while also working on his attitude and mental resilience, achieving the resolve rivaling those of Puppey and Kuroky. Combine this with SVG and MSS’s record of the two players with the most matches together in one team and you can see how Quincy Crew is on a ridiculously high level of Dota 2 right now. They’re not only able to rival the power of Evil Geniuses, but maybe even the international competition.

Undying Breath

Going down the bracket however, most team’s futures are pretty bleak. The Korean Dubu and his team Undying for example have only one way left to reach the Major. They need to beat Both for 4Zoomers and Quincy Crew, to force a tiebreaker with Evil Geniuses. And beating the NA DPC’s 3 best teams bar them. Is a task that seems insurmountable, even with Korean dedication on your side.

Down for the count

For the rest of the bracket, qualifying for the major is already impossible. Instead they are only playing to stave off elimination, or to get a few DPC points on their name, except for 5ManMidas, the first team in the NA DPC’s upper division that is confirmed to relegate down to the lower division next season. Sporting a six series loss streak, this team is just not on the level to compete with the North American big dogs. Their replacements however, are already standing in the wings. Because the lower division zfreek’s simply TOOBASED has swept their competition with a 7 series win streak. Already qualifying them for a spot in NA’s upper division of next season’s DPC. Zfreek showed the world that even without his brother he can perform on the highest level.

The whirlpool

SADBOYS, A-Team and Black N Yellow. All these teams seem to be swirling around in the same whirlpool on the edge the NA DPC’s Upper division. Since two teams will be relegated to the lower division, one of these teams will have to leave the upper division at the end of the season. Only SADBOYS has a series left to play up against 4Zoomers. If they lose this series they would force a three way tiebreaker between them, A-Team and Black N Yellow. Forcing these teams to keep fighting until the bitter end.

Stable Zoomers

Caught in the eye of North America’s storm it is 4Zoomers. Unable to compete with the greats of QC, EG and Undying. But just a little bit too big for the other North American teams, 4Zoomers is enjoying a stable fourth place. A placement that might change up one place or down one place, but neither of these really change anything for the team. They won’t go to the major, but they won’t relegate either. Instead they can already start preparing themselves for the next season, hoping to showcase the same level of skill that Quincy Crew showed when they dealt with Evil Geniuses earlier this week.
