Marci gets nerfed just one day after release

Valve has wasted no time hot patching their new Dota 2 hero Marci. Some changes to a couple of her abilities should make her slightly less dominant.

Dotabuff numbers show that Marci’s win rate goes up significantly the longer the game goes on. She wins 52% of games, but when the hero gets to level 20 and beyond, that win rate goes up to 60%. As is normal with new hero releases, Marci’s pick rate is on average 54%, as a lot of players want to check out the melee champion.

Players quickly caught on to this. Less than a day after her release she was banned over 60% of the time, as more and more players found out Marci wasn’t fun to play against.

Reactions to the quick nerf are somewhat mixed. Some players feel the nerf comes too quickly, and that Valve had to wait for even more statistics before changing things, while other players are hoping these quick nerfs will lower the exuberant ban rate, so they can finally play the new hero.

It does look like Valve is keeping a close eye on the numbers, and that they aren’t afraid to adapt on the go with small(er) updates.
