LNG Esports Ale: “We may try some more interesting picks before this play-ins stage is finished”

Hi, Ale, thanks for the interview and congratulations on staying undefeated in the Groups Stage! How is the team adjusting to Iceland?

Ale: It has been difficult to adapt to daily life in Iceland. I think a few days ago we were not yet used to it, but now everything is going well.

LNG appears to be the strongest team we’ve seen so far in play-ins. What do you think accounts for the success the team has seen so far?

Ale: I think the synergy and effort that the entire team has put into practice in the game has really paid off so far.

It definitely feels like Group A is mostly a battle between LNG and Hanwha Life. How did the team prepare or approach some of the ‘smaller’ teams?

Ale: We are definitely just putting forth our best effort into every game and preparing for every single game.

In your game today against RED Canids, LNG actually fell behind early after both solo lanes fell. What do you think caused this lapse?

Ale: So I think it was because of our composition. Because of our draft we had a very farm focused team and also I think our botlane was more aggressive early on. For the toplane, mid lane, and jungle if the three of us attempted to skirmish it would have been easier for the opponents to get more advantages.

Of course you had that solo kill that really helped recover the game. How was this game from your perspective?

Ale: Because we are in a new meta and champions like Jayce and Kennen were nerfed really hard, I felt like in this game and match up I was just trying to see if Jayce can be played well in the current Worlds meta.

Talking more about the meta, it feels like the Worlds meta is very different from what we saw domestically in many leagues. Do you feel like LNG is catching up faster than other teams?

Ale: We are doing okay. I feel like we are still exploring more possibilities in this new meta and we may try some more interesting picks before this play-ins stage is finished.

Do you feel like it is beneficial to start off your Worlds run in the play-ins stage?

Ale: I feel like starting in play-ins is kind of good. It gives us some time to warm-up for the up-coming match ups in groups and we can get an early read on what champions are strong on stage.

Though you guys are still in the early stages of Worlds, is the team already looking ahead at groups and possibly beyond?

Ale: Our only hope is that we would like to get out of our group in the main event as the first stage and at least make it to the top eight.

Either in scrims or on-stage, who are some of the strongest teams that you guys have played so far?

Ale: I would choose FunPlus Phoenix, we played against them in scrims and they are still a very strong team.

Are there any particular toplaners that you want to play against?

Ale: There is one toplaner specifically I would really like to play against, T1’s Canna. For LPL toplaners, I have really played against them so many times during the regular season and I really want to play some of the best from the LCK.

I hope we get to see that soon. Thanks for the interview, Ale, and good luck!
