Liquid send Vitality to lower bracket, Evil Geniuses eliminated by G2 at IEM Katowice 2021

The upsets keep on coming at the IEM Katowice 2021 group stage, as Team Liquid has regained their form while G2 Esports put up a great performance against G2 Esports.

Things are looking up for G2 Esports, who met up with Evil Geniuses following being sent to the lower bracket, where they eliminated BIG. Despite some close matches on both Train and Dust II, they won out on both with a 16-14 score. Both matches could have swung either way, with Evil Geniuses almost matching G2 at every step, but it was G2 Esports who prevailed. They’ll meet up with Gambit Esports in the third round of the lower bracket, with Qualification on the line. In the other matches both Astralis and Team Spirit already secured a qualification for playoffs.

Group B also provided some interesting matches, especially looking at Team Liquid. The North Americans powered past Vitality, despite dropping the first map Nuke after a 19-16 overtime. They’d go on to win both Vertigo and Mirage quite convincingly, qualifying for the playoffs alongside NaVi. Natus Vincere knocked FURIA, who upset NiP earlier, to the lower bracket, where they’ll face FaZe Clan. Vitality will meet Virtus.Pro.
