Like CoD: Warzone – Battlefield Portal combines Bad Company 2, Battlefield 2042 and more

The most recent EA Play Live saw the announcement of Battlefield Portal. One of the three multiplayer game modes in Battlefield 2042.

A link between Battlefields

Battlefield Portal acts as a link between multiple Battlefield titles. Besides the brand new seven maps of Battlefield 2042, several other maps of older titles have already been confirmed:

  • Battle of the Bulge
  • Arica Harbor
  • Noshahr Canals
  • Casspian Border
  • El Alamein
  • Valparaiso

Weapons and vehicles from the older Battlefields will also be present in those maps, but you will not be limited to them. Just like Call of Duty’s Warzone you will be able to use your preferred weapon across all titles and level them.

While it may seem absurd to see World War II soldiers face off against robots from 2042, but if we take another look at the trailer from EA it really does not matter too much considering how cool it looks.

Fans of the series have been reacting with widespread praise for Portal and Content Creators like YouTuber StoneMountain64 are looking forward to it.

Custom maps and mods:

EA is strengthening the community aspects of the Battlefield franchise by introducing modding tools for custom maps and modes. The popular Battlefield 2 was also initially created from a mod in Battlefield 1942 as developer DICE liked it so much, that they developed its own game based on it.

The editor is the highlight of Battlefield Portal. By simpyl adding rules you can create new modes. Here are some of the examples DICE listed:

  • Giant battles between soldiers from World War II and 2042’s soldiers
  • Weapons from all different times in one game
  • Zombie mode
  • Knives against defibrillators
  • World War II tanks against modern vehicles

The developers showed off one setting in which snipers faced off against shotguns in a live demo. Up to 128 players will be able to play against each other. DICE will also provide several templates, which allow you to rebuild popular modes like Team Deathmatch.

But you can also create your own modes and maps. You can take several maps or even select pieces of the maps to rotate through. With the additional rules to customize in terms of player numbers, weapons, classes and equipment you can let your creativity run wild.

Bots and co-op gameplay

There will be even more options that go deeper and manipulate game mechanics. You will be able to change friendly fire, bullet velocity, weather, damage, aim assist, movement speed, respawn rate, fall damage and much more.

You will also be able to add bots to the game. You could create a co-op game mode that involves four players with no respawns and limited ammunition and HP regeneration facing off against 100 difficult bots from World War II.

How to let other players join the fun

The created custom settings can be saved and will then generate a code. Entering the code will allow other players to play your game mode themselves, similar to the creative mode in Fortnite. These custom modes should give plenty of variety if you need a break from the normal competitive game modes.

Battlefield Portal is looking like one of the best additions to the Battlefield series in recent time and should provide plenty of longevity through user-generated content.
