After eight years as part of the League of Legends team, Mark “Scruffy” Yetter announced on Twitter he’s joining the Riot Games’ upcoming MMO title as game director.
Yetter joins his former game designer Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street on the new title. At the moment of writing, Scruffy’s gameplay design director replacement hadn’t been announced.
Details of the transition are still being ironed out, according to Yetter.
Scruffy became a fan-favorite among the League community as an engaging staff member. He was the go-to person for insights on patch previews and potential champion changes.
His Quick Gameplay Thoughts blog gave the fans the opportunity to dive into the decision making of changes made to certain champions.
“In June this year I’ll be joining Ghostcrawler and the MMO team as the project’s Game Director! We’re still working out all of the transition details, but I’m very confident in the League team’s direction and the future of the game. Expect the same transparency, quality, and openness to feedback as we’ve tried to live up to over the years”, said Yetter in his tweet.
He continues by thanking League’s dev team and the passionate player base, who he says played a critical part of improving his favorite game.
Fans replied in kind, thanking Yetter for everything he has done for League throughout the years. Quite a few replies indicated players are scared for the future balance in League of Legends.
Whoever becomes the new Gameplay Design Director has big shoes to fill.
