LCS Veteran Doublelift announces his retirement

TSM bot laner and superstar Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng has decided to retire as a professional League of Legends player. In a statement made to his twitter page Doublelift talks about the struggles he faced, looks back at his long career and thanks the fans and teams for supporting him on his journey.

Doublelift reflected on his career and the hard work it took him to get where he is now. “For 5 years, I practiced 14 hours a day and lost every important match. Then I finally won my first LCS championship. Today, I’ve won 8 of the last 11 splits. Hard work and determination paid off. I’m fully aware of the irony of saying that in my retirement post.”

His retirement post also seemed bittersweet at times. “I’d like to have been able to say I won Worlds (or even just made it to quarters), but let’s just have the rookies take up the torch on that one.” To close out his statement Doublelift talks about what’s next. “Thank you for watching me grow from a hopeless kid into a successful adult. I’ll be starting a new chapter of life now, and I’d like your support in that too.” It’ll be interesting to see what Doublelift decides to do next.

Doublelift played for multiple teams during his long career, most notably TSM, Team Liquid and CLG. In total Doublelift would go on to win the LCS eight times, would become an LCS All-Star five times and got chosen as the LCS MVP in Summer 2018 after leading Team Liquid to back-to-back titles. Doublelift also got elected as the LCS Finals MVP in Spring 2019 after a tight series against TSM, which Team Liquid would go on to win 3-2.
