LCK most watched esports league, Mobile gaming esports keep growing

When it comes to Esports events in 2020, things didn’t always turn out the way we wanted it to be. Tournament organizers were often forced to postpone events or play out their tournaments and competitions online. Let’s take a look at the most-watched competitions and tournaments of 2020 (data courtesy of esportscharts).

It’s probably not a surprise to anyone anymore but the League of Legends World Championship was the most-watched tournament of the year, with 139 million hours watched. Interestingly League of Legends holds four of the top 5 positions when it comes to hours watched, with both the Spring (65 million hours) and Summer Split (62 million hours) of the LCK in second and third place and the LEC Summer Split trailing in fourth with 41 million hours watched. The PUBG Mobile World League closes out the top 5, at 37 million hours watched.

The League of Legends World Championship is also the most popular esports tournament of 2020, followed by the Free Fire Continental series Asia and Americas. Free Fire is a battle royale and insanely popular mobile game that has garnered immense amounts of attention over the past two years, building an impressive esports scene. The game is particularly huge in India.

When it comes to the most popular esports leagues, League of Legends once again takes the crown. The LCK is the most-watched league by far, drawing in 136 million hours watched. The MPL (Mobile Legends Professional League) takes second place with 95 million hours watched, once again reaffirming that mobile gaming esports is here to stay. With the ESL Pro League, we see some CS:GO in third place. The LEC and LCS respectively close out the top 5.
