KRÜ Klaus: “The thing we improved on the most was the team’s experience on LAN”

Hi, Klaus, congratulations on your win over Zeta. Is the team enjoying Berlin?

Klaus: Yeah, we enjoy being in Berlin a lot. The city is quite beautiful.

KRU are one of the few returning teams from Masters Reykjavik, how has the team progressed since then?

Klaus: I think we have progressed a lot, but I think the thing we improved on the most was the team’s experience on LAN. Like getting used to the LAN environment and not getting nervous on stage.

Zeta seems to be a team not many of their opponents know much about. What were your expectations going into this matchup?

Klaus: To be honest, I think Zeta are a really strong team and I think they could beat Envy. We, as a team, think Zeta are at a similar skill level as Envy. I think they are so underrated, you know? They could actually get the second playoff spot out of the group I think.

On map one, everyone on KRU was playing exceptionally well. What do you think allowed for such a dominant first half?

Klaus: I think Ascent is a really strong map for us and we started on the defender side. It’s a good map for us and we went into the game really well prepared. We just got a lot of opening picks and good spots that we didn’t get as much in game two.

Even though KRU looked clean in the first game, you guys couldn’t recreate that success on map two. Why do you think that was?

Klaus: I think we lost control on the second map because Zeta plays a different meta that is weird to play against. We just didn’t know how to play against their composition, their composition on Split is very rare to be honest, no one else plays the map like Zeta does. I think they knew their plan going in. When we entered Bind and we were all playing more standard compositions, we knew the only thing we needed to do to win was play our game.

Map three was incredibly close, but was there a moment when you guys knew you were going to take the series?

Klaus: I think after we won the pistol round and the bonus round was when we knew that we were going to win the game because they had a bad economy and would not be able to come back from that.

After this series, are you more confident that the team will be able to make it out of groups and into playoffs?

Klaus: I am way more confident because it was a good game and we got everything we wanted in this game. We’re only one win away from making the playoffs. I don’t think the rest of the group is going to be that much more difficult.

Thank you for the interview Klaus, best of luck in the Decider match!
