Korea and Europe cheer after day 1 of Worlds 2020 groups

The first day of League of Legends Worlds 2020 has concluded and in general it was a good day for both Korean and European fans as their teams showed up and secured victories. Things didn’t go so great for the play-in graduates however and North America also lost both games.

Things started out with North American team Flyquest who took on Chinese team Top Esports, one of the tournament favourites. They were horribly outclassed throughout the game, especially in the jungle thanks to Hung “Karsa“ Hao-Hsuan on Graves. Unicorns of Love, who reached groups to play-ins, also suffered the same fate against Korean powerhouse DRX. Once again a lot of the difference was found in the jungle, this time through Hong “Pyosik” Chang-Hyeon on Nidalee, going 13/1/6.

The European teams performed well with Rogue picking up a victory against PSG Talon who are once again playing without their stand-in players. PSG Talon seemed to suffer from synergy issues and once again, the jungle seemed to be a major weakness. Fnatic took on TSM in the last game of the day. Even though Fnatic never approached their best form, they played solid macro-wise and were able to shut down TSM. Mid-Jungle duo Nemesis and Selfmade made a big statement with a great performance.

DAMWON Gaming and JD Gaming wasn’t the great battle a lot of people expected. DAMWON Gaming had full control over the game and shut down JD Gaming on almost every level, with all their carries gaining significant advantages over their opponents. The match between Gen.G and LGD did provide a lot of spectacle, as both teams matched each other very well. Gen.G did pull out the victory however after more than 45 minutes of play.
