FURIA adds Honda as sixth man, replaces Junior at BLAST Pro Global Finals

Lucas “Honda” Cano has been added to the active CS:GO roster of FURIA, the team announced yesterday evening.  The 20-year-old has been a part of the FURIA academy team, but will now get to compete at the highest level, (temporarily) replacing a newly signed Junior at the BLAST Pro Global Finals.

Earlier it became clear that Paytyn “junior” Johnson won’t be able to play for FURIA during the Global Finals due to visa and travelling issues. A clear issue for FURIA, who were left with a four man roster ahead of a big tournament. Honda will step in as a sixth man for the CS:GO roster after a brief stay at FURIA academy. Earlier he played for DETONA Pound, where he showed a lot of promise. It’s a clear sign that FURIA’s academy has been paying dividends, with him already being the fourth player being promoted to the main line-up.

It’s currently unclear if Honda will remain a permanent part of the roster going forward but the coach of FURIA, Nicholas “guerri” Nogueira, has spoken on the modern era of CS:GO and an expanded roster does seem to be a part of his plans for the roster.

Honda won’t have long to prepare for his first match with the main roster, as FURIA is set to play G2 Esports in the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals on January 19. It’ll be interesting to see how he performs and fits into the currently very successful FURIA line-up.

Earlier article (13/01/21):

Paytyn “Junior” Johnson will be joining FURIA as a replacement forHenrique “HEN1” Teles. It’s a transfer that’s been rumored to happen all the way back since November 2020 but it finally came through. Details on the deal are vague, but FURIA reportedly pays $55.000 for the young AWPer.

FURIA was in dire need of a new player after HEN1 decided to bench himself to pursue a deal which would see him play with his brother Lucas “LUCAS1” Teles, on the new team headed by Raphael “cogu” Camargo and featuring some of the former MIBR players.

Junior commented on his move to FURIA on his Twitter page, looking forward to when he gets to play for them. “Ever since FURIA moved to North America, they’ve been my favorite team on and off the server. I’ve looked to their lineup, raw skill and supportive fans for a long time now. I couldn’t be happier to join them and make the Brazilian community proud!

Earlier today it became clear the Junior won’t be available to FURIA for the BLAST Premier Global Finals, which will force FURIA to reveal a sixth player to the roster (which is expected) or to use a stand-in. At the BLAST Premier Global Finals, FURIA will face some of the best teams in the world in the shape of Team Vitality, Astralis and G2 Esports. Teams will compete for a $1.000.000 prize pool, with the winner taking home $600.000 in total.
