Jensen extends contract with TL for record sum

While the free agency period in League of Legends has not started yet, teams all around the world have already started to make their moves for the upcoming season.

The star midlaner will remain with Team Liquid all the way through to 2023. After North American legend Bjergsen announced his retirement from active play Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen became the almost uncontested best mid in the region. Eager to lock down their player Team Liquid has now announced that Jensen would remain with them for three more years.

Record Extension

Before the official announcement on November 5 Travis Gafford already reported on the extension. He even stated the new contract to be valued at $4.2 million, which would break the previous records of not only Team Liquid but also the LCS. Prior to Jensen’s extension, his current teammate Jung “Impact” Eon-yeong was Liquid’s record holder at $3.4 million.

Team Liquid has not commented on the value of the contract, but considering the organization’s track record and Jensen’s accolades and consistent performance throughout the years (2 LCS titles, MSI finalist) the sum seems not unlikely.

A revamped Liquid for 2021?

After Team Liquid’s botlaners Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in and Edward “Tactical” Ra resigned with Liquid earlier, this just leaves the Top lane and Jungle open for the next season. It is still unclear if Impact and Broxah, whose contracts are all running out in November will stay with TL. Reportedly the LCS organisation is in talks with Astralis to acquire the services of Alphari for the Top lane, while also trying to transfer FlyQuest’s Santorin to their roster.

With these investments Liquid is looking to reclaim their position as North America’s top dog, while also looking for redemption on the international stage.
