Earlier Riot Games already hinted at the possibility of an MMORPG set within the League of Legends world, but now they’ve confirmed it.
The first time we’ve heard about Riot Games possibly working on a MMORPG was through Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street, The Vice President of IP and entertainment at Riot. He confirmed they were working on a bigger project in a tweet and that the company would be hiring new staff to accommodate said project.
We are building an MMO and we are hiring!
This is an unusual approach because we are going to need a lot of people, and we know there is a lot of interest, so you can use this link to express your interest even if we don’t have an open role for you yet.https://t.co/CF53hsARWE

Now Street has taken to Twitter once again, this time to announce the job listings for the new MMORPG project. “We are building an MMO and we are hiring! This is an unusual approach because we are going to need a lot of people, and we know there is a lot of interest, so you can use this link to express your interest even if we don’t have an open role for you yet.”

An MMORPG set in the world of League of Legends is something fans have been clamoring for and it’s also something that was still missing from the list of games Riot has been working on in the past few years. They’ve entered the FPS scene with VALORANT and released an autochess game in the form of Teamfight Tactics, but now we’ll also be seeing an MMORPG being worked on alongside some of their other titles.

Previous article (18/12/20):
We’ve seen a lot of games coming out from Riot Games the past two years as they have branched out from League of Legends and found success in other genres as well. Now we might very well see a fully fledged MMO coming out from the developer centered around the League of Legends lore.
The news that Riot may be working on an MMO came from Twitter, where VP of IP and Entertainment Greg Street posted a tweet. “My new job is to kick off a big (some might say massive) game that many of you, and many Rioters, have been asking us to create.” In response to another tweet asking if they were working on an MMO, Street responded: “It is an MMO”.
I have news!
My recent job at Riot has been to help develop the League universe, which we’re going to need!
Because it is time. My new job is to kick off a big (some might say massive) game that many of you, and many Rioters, have been asking us to create.
PS We’re hiring

Not much more is known about the new MMO or the project as a whole. Chances are we won’t be seeing news on it for a while, as the fact they’re hiring new people probably means the game is still in the early stages of development.
Together we achieved a lot this year. Thank you ❤️

Riot Games has had a very successful year with League of Legends but has also provided gamers with a lot of different titles. VALORANT released back in June and in a short timespan has become one of the most popular esports titles. Last year we saw the Teamfight Tactics launch and this year we saw Riot Games push out Legends of Runeterra while their mobile game Wild Rift is going in beta in more and more regions.
