How to get better at sniping in Call of Duty Warzone

Want to do damage from a distance but struggling hit your shots? Here are our tips to improve at sniping in CoD Warzone.

Sniping has been an integral part of the Call of Duty ever since the first game in the franchise. Warzone is no different, as it features a wide assortment of snipers rifles and related equipment. Long-ranged combat has become a staple of Warzone, especially in Verdansk ’84, which features far more open spaces. Still, sniping is an difficult skill to master. So, if you’re struggle to hit your shots, here are our tips to improve at sniping in Call of Duty Warzone!

Refining your aim – Movement and scoping

Aim is obviously one of the most important aspects of using a sniper rifle. Unlike when using an AR, SMG, or LMG, you do not have the luxury of missing bullets in hopes that your spray catches opponents. Finding settings that feel comfortable, such as brightness and sensitivity should make the process feel more natural. Aim requires more than just hand eye coordination however, as several other factors can tacitly effect your aim.

Warzone is a fast paced game, and depending on the equipment and perks of your opponents, standing still can be a death sentence. When you are scoped in, move around until you’ve perfectly lined up with your target. This will likely take a great deal of practice considering movement enables inaccuracy, and it may be difficult to stop on a dime to take your shot. This will drastically improve your survivability however, especially if spotted and actively being shot at.

The good news is – notorious sniping elements such as bullet drop are nearly invisible in Call of Duty Warzone. Compensating for bullet drop does not require that much readjustment, and as long as your crosshairs on firmly on the target, missing shouldn’t be an issue.

Positioning – Start high and avoid buildings

Knowing how to shoot is one thing, but knowing where to shoot from is what separates good snipers from great snipers. Where you want to set up shop to take your shots will change as the game progresses and the map effectively shrinks. When dropping, you should attempt to land onto rooftops of tall buildings. This gives an obvious ‘birds eye view’ advantage. Here, you can take some easy shots at target running through the streets. You should just watch out for anyone who had the same idea.

As the game goes on, you should start avoiding buildings. Typically with tight hallways and corners, snipers simply don’t function as well when confined. Stick to the outdoors where foliage can obscure your figure from the sight of other players. Buildings may give some amount of protection from bullets, but rocks and trees can provide more dynamic cover. Plus, this better allows you to get the element of surprise. If you find yourself ending up in buildings, then at least make sure to take an LMG as a secondary.

Vehicles – Avoid shooting and driving

Vehicles may be a fun addition to the battle royale genre, but they are not made with snipers in mind. Traveling by foot is far more advantageous to snipers than by vehicle. Cars and other modes of transportation quite obviously draw attention both in size and by sound. Walking through the forest may be slower and increase your risk of ending up outside the circle, but gives you a low profile. You simply won’t be hitting many headshots when driving and if caught out, the sniper isn’t the best weapon to retaliate an ambush with.

Similarly, you shouldn’t target vehicles should you come across them. It’s very unlikely that you’ll shot will land considering it is an incredibly fast target with a rather small window of opportunity. The sniper also isn’t made for stopping vehicles dead in their tracks. Should the vehicle stop and players emerge, then you may be in an advantageous position. Otherwise, this will only be a waste of time and ammo.

Loadouts – Find your fit

As stated before, Call of Duty Warzone features a great deal of sniper rifles, all which specialize in different areas. There is no single, objective best sniper rifle out there. With different stats in stopping power, accuracy, and more, it is up to the player entirely how they wish to proceed.
