How Dexter has revitalized mousesports

Mousesports seem to be rising to the top once more, now finally adjusting to their roster shuffle earlier this year.

With Christopher ‘Dexter’ Nong coming over from Renegades, the team has a new In-game Leader to fill up the gap left by Chris ‘ChrisJ’ de Jong. What makes the team perform so well with new players in the line-up? Quite simply looking at the statistics, Dexter seems to be a better rounded player than Chris was.

His rating is around 1.0 on HLTV’s rating system, as well as a great ability to clutch. During his relatively short stay at Mousesports, he has won all six 1v2 clutches and five out of seven 1v1 situations over a span of 74 maps. But it’s not just the statistics that favour Dexter over his Dutch counterpart, it’s also the way he enables his teammates.

Enabling stronger AWP pressure

Often when the IGL is also the main AWPer for the team, the pressure of the vital weapon goes down. The IGL also has to make key decisions and manage the team during a round, rather than fully focussing on putting pressure on the map and getting kills. With Frederik ‘acoR’ Gyldstrand now taking over the AWP position within Mousesports, Dexter can focus more on leading and enabling his team, rather than feeling more pressure on also having to open up the round kill wise.

Flashing his way to a Flashpoint victory

Whilst being the IGL, Dexter is of course not the strongest player statistically but he is putting in more pressure on his opponents by using utility well. He and acoR split the most amount of flashes thrown per round between the two of them, but Dexter creates the most blinded time for his opponents on average per round. Besides this, his flashes have a success rate of 0.70 enemies flashed per flashbang thrown.

Opening doors (and rounds)

Dexter doesn’t need to run in himself to disrupt the defence, he is able to create space for his teammates with the utility thrown. He is always focussing on getting opening kills and when he does, his team sure is effective in finishing the round in their favour. On opening kills from Dexter, the team wins 74,5% of the rounds. Considering the fact that Dexter’s success ratio on opening duels is just below 50% and he attempts to get the opening kill in 21,4% of the rounds, this creates quite some opportunities for the team to actually win the round on the back of their IGL’s early pressure.

Quite simply put, Dexter does not feel the need to put as much early pressure down as ChrisJ did in the past but when he does go for early fights, it enables the team in a way that grants them a high win chance on his opening kills. The team is now on quite a charge to the top, but as is always the question in CS: will they keep improving or will there be another team strong enough to halt them?
