Opinion – How Cheaters are ruining CSGO right now

Cheating accusations in CS:GO are often flawed as players might have just legitimately outplayed you. But in recent times the cheating problems have grown out of control in CS:GO’s matchmaking.

Counter-Strike does have several systems to keep out dishonest players: VAC, Overwatch as well as Trust Factor and Trusted Mode. But these things seem to not be working properly recently as even Valve themselves acknowledged.

Allegedly the root of the problem has been fixed now, but players with high Trust Factor still regularily run into spinbots, aimbots that just destroy the opposition from across the entire map. Just a short glance at Twitter confirms those complaints:

Something needs to change

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is more than eight years old now, but Valve is still not tackling many of the community’s wishes. 128 tick matchmaking servers are still missing and cheaters are still running rampant. New ideas from the community mostly go unheard.

As the return of large-scale tournaments in sold-out arenas is still in the far distance, the esport scene is also unable to carry the weight of the game alone. North America’s scene is slowly withering out as Valve apparently watches on without a care.

CS:GO urgently needs fresh new impulses instead of stagnation. The game and its community have more than earned it. Valve has unfortunately often disappointed in that regard so far. Now the newest update finally brings changes to map pool and more, but the addition of Ancient as new competitive map is not exactly meeting universal acclaim. It remains to be seen just how well the new additions can prove themselves. If Valve continues to not hit the mark for CS:GO, we might even see a decline in Europe.
