Heroic cruise past Renegades, OG defeat BIG in ESL Pro League Season 13

The first day of the ESL Pro League Season 13 is in the books, as the first matches of group A have been played, with some interesting results.

Complexity have managed to build on their current strong form as they breezed past FunPlus Phoenix on Nuke (16-6) and Dust II (16-10). The result comes after a strong showing at IEM Katowice. For FunPlus Phoenix it was their first match with stand-in Miikka “suNny” Kemppi, who is playing with the team following the departure of Chris “ChrisJ” de Jong.

OG faced BIG in their first match and, despite losing a tight game on Overpass with 14-16, they pulled it together on Nuke (16-14) and stomped on Inferno (16-6) to claim their first series victory. For OG it’s also a match they’ve played with a stand-in, as they have (temporarily?) added Nikolaj “niko” Kristensen after benching Nathan “NBK-” Schmitt. For BIG it’s yet another defeat as their slump seemingly continues.

Finally Heroic took the upper hand against Renegades but it wasn’t without effort. The first map, Inferno, went to overtime with Heroic pulling out a 19-16 victory. On Train they didn’t suffer any problems against a weaker Renegades effort, cruising to victory with a 16-5 scoreline. Later today FunPlus Phoenix will take on Renegades as Complexity faces OG in what should be an interesting matchup considering the form both teams are in. Heroic and BIG will close out the day of matches.
