Halo Infinite delayed to 2021

The ongoing pandemic causes game studios to slow down production. This also affects 343 Industries, the team behind Halo Infinite.

In a developer update on Twitter, 343 Industries’ Studio Head Chris Lee informed fans about the game’s status. COVID-19 has caused delays for the developers, which have lead to the release date being moved to 2021.

The original plan was to release the game this holiday season shortly after the Xbox Series X’s release. Lee stated that the game was not in a satisfactory state right now and needed more work. In order to polish the game, the release date had to be changed.

These news aren’t that surprising though. In a CNBC interview in April, Microsoft’s head of Xbox Phil Spencer already stated that “the bigger unknown is probably the game production” and that Microsoft won’t release unfinished games.

The new release date might not even be bad news for the Halo community. As history has shown, most gamers would rather have a good game later than a bad game too early.

Currently there’s no new release date other than the window of 2021. The current state of the game doesn’t seem to be too far behind schedule, so we should expect the release in the first half of the coming year.
