GrandGrant leaves esports after accusations of sexual harrassment and assault

Popular Dota 2 caster and analyst Grant “GranDGranT” Harris has been named and accused of sexual harrassment and assault over the weekend on Twitter. Since then he has announced his exit from the scene.

With the recent storm of revelations on Social Media concerning sexual harrassment within the wider gaming scene Dota 2 has also been indicted. Multiple threads and accusations have come up regarding alleged inappropriate sexual conduct from GrandGrant.

In a Tweet he took responsbility and announced that he would be leaving Dota 2 and the esport scene for “a long time if not permanent”.

The first accusations against the commentator were made on June 21 by cofactorstrudel on Twitter:

GrandGrant did apologise for the incident and it seemed that there would be no other accusations against the commentator. On June 22 Anthony “scantzor” Hodgson posted a new thread in which he claimed that GrandGrant was the main reason for commentator LlamaDownUnder leaving the Dota 2 scene abruptly.

The harrassment from GrandGrant was sufficient enough for a restraining order to be put in place against him when LlamaDownUnder took legal action against him. More accusations against GrandGrant continued to pile up as wickedcosplay outright accused the commentator of rape.

GrandGrant gave a statement later on June 22 in which he formally declared to leave Dota 2 and esports as a whole for a “long time if not permanent”. Shortly afterwards he was also released by Evil Geniuses, where he had been under contract as streamer.

On June 23 wickedcosplay then proceeded to post a detailled twitlonger concerning her accusation the day prior. Writing for a woman, who wished to remain anonymous it provided a full report on a case of sexual assault by GrandGrant during TI4:

Since the beginning of the current wave of revelations about the esports and also the wider gaming scene many prominent members of various game scenes have been indicted and accused.

As GrandGrant’s case comes to a close (for now) there are still others which are unresolved, including accusations against Counter-Strike-Caster Henry “HenryG” Greer.
