Gen.G defeat T1 – Faker won’t compete at Worlds

Today the Regional Finals in the LCK took place, where Gen.G took on T1 in a best-of-five series. The stakes were extremely high, because the winner would snag away the third and final Korean spot at Worlds. Ultimately it was Gen.G that ended up winning the series with a convincing 3-0 victory.

Now that the series has concluded all teams for Worlds are known (aside from the play-in teams), with Gen.G joining the list. Most of the eyes were on T1’s star mid laner Lee “Faker” Sang-Hyeok, who wasn’t able to carry his team to a victory. It’s the third time in his career that the mid laner will not make it to Worlds.

T1 fell behind early in the first match they played, conceding early kills to Gen.G mid laner Gwak “Bdd” Bo-Seong on Azir. They fought themselves back into the game due to strong teamfighting and even picked up Baron, but Gen.G quickly regained their lead and ended the match. The second match looked like a much closer affair that was ultimately decided by a fight around Baron at the 30 minute mark. In game 3 Gen.G showed much better objective control, which led to them winning the series.

The Worlds 2020 Main Event starts on October 13 and will end on October 31, preceded by the play-in stage. Gen.G will look to make a splash in the group stage, where they’ll be put in pool 3 for the group draw.
