Despite earlier news that Gamescom 2021 would feature both online and offline elements, it’s now been announced they’ll be going fully online.
Due to multiple companies deciding to pull out as they’re not able to attend the event in person, Gamescom 2021 will be forced to be a fully online event. Back in March Koelnmesse, who organized the event, had announced that Gamescom 2021 would feature a hybrid experience of both online and offline events, but now they’ve unfortunately had to backtrack on those plans.

Koelnmesse sent out a statement on the situation and the decision to move the event online, also explaining the reasoning and biggest factors behind it. “As high as our hopes for personal encounters may have been, current circumstances force us to change our plans. Due to the still difficult developments, many leading international companies will not be participating in the hybrid gamescom this year. However, one thing is clear: gamescom 2021 will take place – digitally – from August 25 to August 27.”
During Gamescom 2021 multiple shows will be aired which highlight new titles, games and industry developments. According to Koelnmesse there’ll be a redesign to the Gamescom Now online hub where fans can easier follow along to watch livestreams, interviews and trailers.
