G2 Esports eliminate BIG, Gambit knock out mousesports at IEM Katowice 2021 Groups

Quite a few upsets and unexpected results in another day of the IEM Katowice 2021 Group Stage, which sees mousesports and BIG get knocked out.

Most eyes were actually on the lower bracket of group A, where G2 Esports took on BIG. Eventually it was G2 who regained their rhythm and managed to knock BIG out of the tournament with a 16-10 on Inferno and 16-12 on mirage. Following some good matches in previous months, BIG seems to have had more and more struggles in their recent series, culminating in an elimination during the group stage.

Mousesports entered IEM Katowice with a new IGL in the form of dexter and seemingly had quite a few synergy issues. They’d go on to have a strong first half on Dust II with a 9-6 opener, but got demolished in the second half, ending up 11-16. Gambit Esports found a resilient mousesports on Vertigo, but once again their second half was just way stronger as they sent mousesports home.

In the other matches of group A Team Spirit advances to round 3 of the Upper Bracket, defeating Heroic on the way, where they face Astralis, who beat out Evil Geniuses 2-0. This means Gambit will be facing Heroic in the lower bracket, while Evil Geniuses take on G2 Esports in what is sure to be an interesting series.

Group B also played out some more matches, with FURIA Esports surprisingly sending Ninjas in Pyjamas to the lower bracket, to meet Natus Vincere in the next round of the upper bracket, who just beat Virtus.Pro 2-0.
