G2 Esports and Fnatic on top once again in LEC Summer Split Playoffs

Even though teams like Rogue and MAD Lions had a very strong split (we even put them on top of our LEC Power Ranking), they had a lot of trouble with the LEC’s giants in the playoffs. Both Fnatic and G2 Esports won their matches, moving on to the upper bracket finals.

Rogue entered the playoffs as one of the favourites to take it all. After a great Summer Split they showed they were one of the best when it came to teamwork and collective effort, but these things fell through against Fnatic. After a great performance by jungler Oskar “Selfmade” Boderek (among others), Fnatic found their old form again after a rather disappointing regular season and swept Rogue with a 3-0 end result, sending them to the losers bracket.

The same is true for G2 Esports, who enjoyed a rather mediocre split. Against a MAD Lions roster that looked very exciting throughout the split, they looked like their old selves once more. Throughout the series bot laner Luka “Perkz” Perkovic shone bright, helped by great performances of mid laner Rasmus “Caps” Winther and jungler Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski. It seems like the “Hakuna Matata” strategy payed of for G2 Esports as they’ll play at Worlds once more.

Up next in the playoffs MAD Lions will face Schalke04, who eliminated SK Gaming and looked very strong while doing it. The winner of the match will have to face Rogue to decide who’ll head on the lower bracket final, where either G2 Esports or Fnatic awaits. Will we see a Grand Final featuring G2 Esports and Fnatic once again or will another team step up?
