Furia upsets Astralis and NIP ends Complexity’s run in EPL

Furia and NIP will continue on to face the remaining group winners while Astralis and Complexity became the latest teams to drop out.

The knockout stage continued on as Furia extended their arduous run with an upset victory and Ninjas In Pyjamas emerged victorious in their second series.

The Brazilian squad have only heated up as their long EPL run has gone deeper, one of their most dominant and surprising wins coming today against Astralis as they won 2-0. Map one on Vertigo saw Furia’s dominant and aggressive playstyle on full display from the get go as they took T-side 9-6. CT-side only prove better for the game leaders as Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato pushed Furia over the finish line 16-10 with 23 total kills. 4 out of 5 Furia members ended with positive K/Ds, winning all but 4 rounds but total elimination, setting the tone of the series early on.

Map two, Train, was a runaway game for Furia to advance further, claiming the victory 16-2. Andrei “arT” Piovezan put the game in the Brazilian team’s favor early on as he finished with 25 kills, an impressive 131 ADR, and 2.19 overall rating. Furia’s win over Astralis have put them in serious contention for the title, now facing against the thus far undefeated Heroic roster.

On the other side of the bracket, the Swedish NIP squad ended Complexity’s EPL hopes. Complexity began with fruitful results however, taking Mirage for an early series lead in OT for a 19-17 victory. The duo of Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke and Valentine “poizon” Vasilev largely led their efforts and had a great performance despite the unfortunate result.

Game two was a contentious victory for NIP, the game wildly swinging the favor of whomever was on CT side in Overpass. Though Complexity led 11-4, they ultimately fell 15-16 with only 3 wins on T-side. Inferno was by far the greatest landslide victory for either side, as NIP took the map 9-16 as their primary AWPer, Tim “Nawwk” Jonasson, earned 24 kills, 15 of which coming off the signature AWP.

NIP will now get a shot against the surging CIS squad, Gambit, for a shot at the EPL finals.
