FURIA benches HEN1 ahead of BLAST Premier Global Finals

According to Brazilian CS:GO team FURIA Henrique “HEN1” Teles will be moved to the bench. FURIA released a statement on the matter, discussing the decision and the reasoning behind it. HEN1 is reportedly interested in joining forces with his twin brother on a new team headed by Raphael “cogu” Camargo.

In a blog post written by André Akkari, a Brazilian professional poker player and investor in FURIA, it is explained why HEN1 was moved to the bench. “Why would you place a top 16 player with such talent on the bench, perhaps even let him leave the team? Well, two reasons. Firstly because he’s always shown the desire to play with Lucas, his twin brother, and he was very honest about that. […] Secondly because FURIA refuses to be a second choice.”

The benching of HEN1 makes things a little more complicated for FURIA, who won’t be able to use him going into the BLAST Premier Global Finals, where they’ll face top teams such as Team Vitality, Astralis and G2 Esports. When it comes to a possible replacement for HEN1, FURIA has been heavily linked with Paytyn “junior” Johnson who currently plays for Triumph, with a possible deal announced soon.

HEN1 joined FURIA back in 2019 as a replacement for Rinaldo ”ableJ” Moda Junior. During his time with the team he helped them reach new heights, winning DreamHack Masters Spring, IEM New York and season 12 of the ESL Pro League.
