Fortnite – Sony invests $250 million into Epic Games

Sony has invested $250 million and acquired 1,4% of Epic Games’ shares. Will that effect Fortnite?

The companies see this deepened connection between both partners as helpful to advance “the state of the art in technology, entertainment, and socially connected online services.”

According to reporting by VentrueBeat the deal will not have any exlusivity bound to it.

Sony’s investment marks the second big player acquiring shares of Epic. In 2012 Chinese giant Tencent bought 40% for $330 million.

Epic’s CEO Tim Sweeney said the following in his statement: “Sony and Epic share a vision of real-time 3D social expeirences that will lead to a convergence of gaming, film, and music.” With Epic’s expertise in holding events in-game like the most recent Travis Scott concert and Sony being the right holder to many movies and artists besides their PlayStation department, we might just see a lot more events coming soon.
