The starting bot laner of Fnatic, Elias “Upset” Lipp, won’t be competing alongside Fnatic in the group stage of Worlds 2021. Fnatic released a statement on the matter, explaining why Upset had to return home. “Following an urgent family matter, Upset is forced to return to home and will until further notice not start for our team in the group stage. We ask that his privacy be respected.”

As a replacement for the star bot laner, Fnatic will be playing with their academy bot laner Louis “Bean” Schmitz, who will make his debut on the Worlds stage. “Bean has been preparing with our team the last few weeks in Reykjavik and will make his debut as a starter in our Worlds opener versus HLE.”
In any case, the news comes as a serious blow for the chances of Fnatic in the group stage, who won’t be competing at full strength. Fnatic were dealt into Group C, where they face PSG Talon, Royal Never Give Up and Hanwha Life Esports and were one of the favorites to make it out. It’ll be interesting to see how this Fnatic team adapts without the consistent performances of Upset in the bot lane.
