ESL One: Road to Rio Megathread – Streams, Standings, News and More

There is still a lot of time until the Rio Major takes place in November. But the qualification phase of the $2 million CS:GO tournament is in full swing. During ESL One: Road to Rio teams earn important qualification points for the Major. In this megathread, you’ll get every information you need!

As the first of several regional tournaments, ESL One: Road to Rio is the first important step to determine the participants of the Rio Major in November. No team wants to miss the only Major of the year! Not only does the tournament award points but also $255,000 prize money!

Format

Group Stage:

In the group stage, all teams play each other (round-robin) in a best-of-three. The number of teams advancing depends on the number of participants in any given group. In Europe (EU), the four best teams of each group go on to the playoffs. In Eastern Europe (CIS), South America (SA), Oceania and North America (NA), the top 3 advance. Only two teams from each Asian group qualify for the elimination stage.

Playoffs:

Depending on their performance in their group, teams get seeded in the playoffs. The playoffs of the European division will be played in a double-elimination bracket. The top 2 of each group receive spots in the Upper Bracket, the other teams start in the Lower Bracket. All games, except for the Grand Finals, are best-of-three. The Upper Bracket winner starts with a one-map advantage into the best-of-five finals.

The playoffs of every other region are played in a single-elimination format. The group winners of CIS and North America qualify directly for the semifinals. The group stage winners in SA and Oceania are set for the Grand Finals and await their opponents from the semifinals. In Asia, the group stage winners do not get a seeding advantage. First place finishers take on the runner-up of the other group in the semis. All games will be held as best-of-threes.

Prize Money and Qualifying Points

$255,000 are distributed as follows:

EU: $115,000
CIS: $50,000
NA: $60,000
SA: $10,000
Ozeanien: $10,000
Asien: $10,000

The distribution is based on the participating Challengers and Legends of the last Major, as explained in this blogpost by Valve: The Road to the November Rio Major
