EA Sports employee allegedly sells FUT Icon cards for thousands of dollars

The FIFA community on Twitter has exploded as an employee of EA Sports was allegedly selling FUT Icons and other cards for huge sums.

First and foremost, the story has not been confirmed and EA Sports has not come out with a statement in regards to the situation. That didn’t stop Twitter from sharing screenshots under the hashtag #EAGate, which allegedly shows an EA Sports employee selling cards to a customer for enormous prices, some even going upwards of 2000 dollars. The FIFA community is outraged.

Popular FIFA content creator NephentheZ reacted to the screenshots on Twitter, offering a more nuanced take on the situation and exploring the issue that has led to this kind of situation even being possible. ”I know social media is going to have a field day with the memes and jokes, but ultimately it exposes a huge fucking problem with FUT at the moment, to the fact EA employees are (allegedly) having to SELL Icons for people to have a chance of using them. Needs changing.”

Over the years EA Sports has taken measures to stop real-world trading in regards to their FIFA games. They put price ranges on certain players on the transfer market, altered the trading method and cracked down harder on players who bought coins from third party sellers, all the while cracking down on those sellers as well.

We’ll provide more information on the situation as soon as it’s available.
