Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson to play protagonist in Call of Duty movie?

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is one of the most famouse actors in the world. Just recently he was also featured in the special event concluding Fortnite’s chapter 2. Could he now feature in a live-action movie?

“The Rock” to play the protagonist in a Call of Duty adaption?

In a recent interview with Men’s Journal Dwayne Johnson talked about his preparation for the “Black Adam” role, a super hero from the DC comic. In the last question he was asked about bringing video game characters to the big screen, to which he answered the following:

I’ve always been a big Madden fan. I can’t tell you which game in particular we’re doing, but there will be an announcement this year. We’re going to bring one of the biggest, most badass games to the screen—one that I’ve played for years. I’m really excited to bring it to fans around the world. Of course we’re going to do right by our gamer friends—but really we’re just going to make a great movie.

That is quite an open statement that encompasses almost every bigger game release of the recent years. So what is pointing towards Call of Duty?

Why Call of Duty could be the movie in question

Activision already had plans for a movie adaption of Call of Duty in 2015, but the developer scrapped his plans in 2020. Since then Microsoft has bought out Activision Blizzard, who could be re-thinking the entire franchise. Especially as Faith McKay from Giant Freaking Robot reported that Dwayne Johnson is apparently in talks with the developers about the Call of Duty adaption. But there are no more details known so far.
