Dota Dragon’s Blood Diaries Season 2 – Here We Go Again (Episode 1)

Look how time flies, seems like just yesterday that I was still raving about the first season of Dragon’s Blood. That was almost a year ago?

Just like last year I unfortunately only had the lunch break to sneak the first episode in so here are my first impressions from Book 2 of Dragon’s Blood.

Obligatory spoiler warning for the very first episode as we dive in:

No rest for the wicked

Hopefully you have an excellent memory of the events of the first season as we are going straight in at where Book 1 ended. The second season opens up with Davion captured by Kaden en route to Dragon Hold as Fymryn tails them. Meanwhile Selemene’s temple is being re-dedicated to Mene, the previous Moon Goddess.

After those establishing shots and the intro (which still looks amazing, although I would have loved a new Opening for Book 2) the plot gets going immediately and focuses on Dragon Hold and the remnants of Selemene’s army.

“This gets worse before it gets better”

Our protagonists have clearly seen better days at the beginning of Book 2, but after watching the first episode Kaden definitely puts it best.

This is not only just in regards to the physical struggles they face each. Davion has to endure imprisonment and being experimented upon by “Father”, while Luna and Mirana have their hands full with staying alive and bringing as many of their soldiers home as they can in their devastating retreat.

Our heroes also have to face crisis of faith as Luna and Mirana both feel responsible for their goddess’ downfall and the mess they are in. On Davion’s side he has to come to terms with being part of the Dragon Clan and potentially being joined to Slyrak forever.

Not exactly the nicest of outlooks for them. And to make matters worse, Terrorblade manages to take control of Father while the dragons are about to attack Dragon Hold right before the end of episode 1.

Wait, it’s over already?

And just like that I am sucked into Dragon’s Blood again. Well, time to set some time aside for binging it after work I suppose. Animation quality seems throughout the first episode seems to have recovered from the uncanny valley of the Elven Village battle. But it was also nothing outstanding like we had in the first season’s pilot.

If the rest of the season is just as action-packed as the first episode, we are in for a wild ride.

See you next time for my impressions on the following episodes.
