Dota 2 to receive Netflix anime adaptation

In a trailer released to YouTube, popular streaming website Netflix announced that they’ll be releasing an animated series centered around Valve’s Dota 2.

The animated series will feature eight episodes in total and will be available to watch starting March 25. It’ll be called “Dota: Dragon’s Blood” and is animated by Studio MIR, who in the past have worked on projects such as The Legend of Korra and Voltron: Legendary Defender. The story will center around Davion, the Dragon Knight, who along his journey meets up with the Princess of the Moon, Mirana, who herself is on a secret mission, and an Eldwurm, a race of ancient dragons.

The showrunner for the new animated series Ashley Edward Miller, who previously worked on ‘X-Men: First Class’, ‘Thor’ and ‘Black Sails’, talked about the story in a press release. “Fans will love how we’ve imagined the DOTA 2 universe and woven together an epic, emotional, and adult-oriented story about some of their favorite characters. The cinematic animation, acting and music are simply next level and I’m grateful to Valve for supporting our creative ambitions.”

Dota 2 isn’t the only game that’ll receive an animated series, as League of Legends announced an animated series of their own back in 2020. Netflix has also dabbled in video game anime in the past, with Castlevania receiving critical acclaim.
