Does the new Astralis roster stand a chance?

With the team taking in new players and results not really being where they need to be, Astralis had dropped out of the top 10 for the first time in a year. The team now sits on an uncomfortable 19th place in the HLTV World Ranking and will have to stay there for a little while. The first event the revamped team will compete in will be BLAST Premier Fall Final 2021, a spot the new boys got as a welcome present from the old guard.

Up against the best

Of course that does mean the team has some time to prepare and get things in order to make sure they have what it takes to compete, but they’ll have to go up against NIP in the first round. NIP is on a surge to the top and has beaten Astralis at the Major recently, getting even more momentum. The only good thing is that Astralis has new players, which most likely will bring in a new kind of playstyle. Do we expect Astralis to win? Not really, the team will have to adjust to each other, get to grips with the pressure coming with a legendary organisation competing at the highest level and of course also learn to deal with the now added media pressure.

A strong duo?

Luckily the team does bring in two players that have been on the same team at Complexity. With Philip ‘Lucky’ Ewald also being in the team for just three months now, it means they can properly rebuild. The odd thing is though, that Lucas ‘Bubzkji’ Andersen has been sidelined again and is now openly listed for sale to other organisations. The team also brough in Alexander ‘Ave’ Holdt as a new coach, who has shown his value before at North.

Taking in two new players as well as Lucky means that Astralis has a certain plan in mind to restructure the roster and possibly be more future proof. The question is however, will this just be another team that works in theory, but will fail in practice? With the revamp of the Brazilian scene possibly in sight, it seems as if more organisations are putting in the money to create new superpowers.

We can learn from Na’Vi that switching every now and then does work, but it takes time for the players to adapt and fit in to the team properly. Na’Vi does have Aleksandr ‘S1mple’ as absolute starplayer, that can negate some early problems when working in a new teammate. The new Astralis roster however, does not have a rating monster just yet. Maybe BlameF or K0nfig could change that and make Danish CS great again?
