CS:GO has reached a new player peak in this year. But in its history there have been plenty of historic moments. Here are the past Major champions.
The very first Major for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was hosted in 2013. Launched with the backing of the developers Valve, the Majors became the most important tournaments in the CS:GO scene.
Here are all the teams that managed to bring a Major title home and etch their names into history as the very best.
Fnatic - Dreamhack Winter 2013 | The very first official CS:GO-Major was won by the Swedes from Fnatic. It was the first of three Major titles for Fnatic. The first five Major champions were znajder, flusha, JW, Devilwalk and pronax. | Image Credit: DreamHack ▲
Virtus.Pro - EMS One Katowice 2014 | When Poland`s best won the 2014 Major in front of their home crowd, Katowice erupted. It would prove to be the only Major trophy for the long-standing lineup. At the ELEAGUE Major Atlanta 2017 they reached the finals again, but fell short. The Polish heroes were TaZ, NEO, pashaBiceps, Snax and byali. | Image Credit: ESL ▲
Ninjas in Pyjamas - ESL One: Cologne 2014 | Their triumph at Cologne was the peak of the long domination of the legendary first Ninjas in Pyjamas lineup. Afterwards NiP entered a long decline and never quite reached their former heights. The champions back then were f0rest, GeT_RiGhT, Xizt, Fifflaren and friberg. | Image Credit: ESL ▲
LDLC - DreamHack Winter 2014 | This was the first Major title for the French Counter-Strike scene. After Fnatic forfeited their quarterfinal match in the wake of the olofboost, LDLC clinched the trophy. In the finals they won against NiP and set a French exclamation mark on the scene. Fnatic - ESL One: Katowice 2015 & ESL One: Cologne 2015 | 2015 was the beginning of the Fnatic era in CS:GO. The swedish team were the first lineup to win back-to-back Majors in dominating fashion. The winners were JW, flusha, pronax, olofmeister and KRIMZ. | Image Credit: ESL ▲
Team EnvyUs - DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca 2015 | After numerous French shuffles in the scene Happy led his team to another French Major championship. Taking down Natus Vincere in the finals with 2-0 the following five took the trophy home: shox, SmithZz, kennyS and apEX. | Image Credit: DreamHack ▲
Luminosity / SK Gaming - MLG Columbus 2016 & ESL One: Cologne 2016 | 2016 was the year of Brazil. While they won their first major as massive underdogs under Luminosity, by the time of Cologne 2016 SK Gaming were the undisputed best team in the world. Astralis - ELEAGUE Major: Atlanta 2017 | After countless failed playoff runs at previous Majors the Danish scene reshuffled in 2016 to form Astralis. 2017 was their breakthrough as they finally hoisted a trophy and won the first of many Astralis Majors. Gambit - PGL Major Krakow 2017 | Nobody had thought that Gambit would upset the world by taking home the trophy in Krakow. The CIS squad had a spectacular run through the playoffs to face down the second dark horse in the tournament, Immortals. In a close 2-1 victory Gambit won the first Major for their region. Cloud9 - ELEAGUE Major: Boston 2018 | The legendary Boston Major 2018 saw Cloud 9's miraculous run to win the trophy in front of the homecrowd. As massive underdogs against the superstar squad of FaZe Clan, Cloud 9 finally claimed a Major for North America. Astralis - FaceIt Major: London 2018, IEM Katowice 2019, StarLadder Berlin Major 2019 | As part of the Astralis era the Danes could just be the greatest team of all time in CS:GO history.
