Crucible releasing soon – Amazon’s first foray into gaming

The first release out of the Amazon Games Studios will be Crucible. A free-to-play shooter, trying a fresh take on the time-tested genre.

On May 5th the first trailer for Crucible was shown, with a launch following it just two weeks later on May 20th. Interested players will be able to download it for free via Steam and try out the new crossover between MOBA and Shooter.

It is quite uncommon that the release follows this soon after the initial trailer. Whether or not this marketing strategy will work out for Amazon and Relentless Studios remains to be seen.

Three gamemodes

The reveal not only announced the release, it also introduced the first three gamemodes to the players:

  • Heart of the Hives: Two teams of four players each compete against each other trying to kill large neutral bosses. Whoever kills three bosses and capture their “hearts” first wins.
  • Alpha Hunters: Eight pairs face off against each other. Winner will be the last team standing.
  • Harvester Command: A eight-vs-eight mode focused on capturing and controlling Essence Harvesters to gain points. The first team to 100 points is victorious.
    Different heroes and factions

Crucible will boast of a diverse character cast with various abilities and special skills. Making each character play out differently. Similar to other FPS-titles like Overwatch, Rainbow Six or the most recent hot game VALORANT.

Graphically the game borrows heavily from the cancelled title Paragon or the asymmetrical shooter Evolve from 2015.
