Crazy Raccoon Munchkin: “As a leader I think I am not the best and I have room to grow”

Hi, Munchkin. Thanks for accepting my interview after such a difficult game. How has the team been doing in Berlin so far?

Munchkin: The scrims and practice sessions we have had in Berlin have been good so the mood on the team was pretty high, but that only lasted until we started playing the tournament today unfortunately.

Crazy Raccoons are one of the few teams returning from Masters Reykjavik. How do you think the team has progressed since then?

Munchkin: I would say during Stage Two we were much more free and we adapted as games progressed. For Stage Three, we changed to focus specifically on the team’s communication and strategy.

Do you feel like the competition is potentially more difficult at Masters Berlin compared to Reykjavik?

Munchkin: Yeah, I would say that during Stage Two the teams were quite difficult. Some of the top teams from Masters Reykjavik made it to Stage Three, but in both events the level of competition has been quite high.

Undoubtedly, you guys have one of the most difficult groups as you must face both Gambit and 100 Thieves. What do you think about the strength of your group?

Munchkin: I think it is only fair because we lost the finals in Japan. We are going into Masters Berlin as the second seed and so as a second seed we were bound to end up in a tougher group. We practiced a lot for this group but I suppose there is room for more growth.

Could you tell me more about Crazy Raccoon’s practice leading up to Masters Berlin?

Munchkin: We actually performed quite well during scrims. Since we got here, I think the team overall felt like we were performing and had grown since Japan. Even our scrim win rate was pretty high, I think we were in the high 60 percent.

This was obviously a very difficult loss, why do you think you guys struggled so much?

Munchkin: I think there were two things that affected the team the most. Firstly we have some new players on the team. Secondly, we have several players that have never really experienced a LAN tournament let alone a LAN tournament of this scale, being international. It was pretty obvious that some of the players were pretty nervous throughout the match today and we made lots of mistakes because of that.

Do you think the team is capable of improving and doing better after this loss?

Munchkin: Yeah, I think we definitely have the potential to perform very well. During our next match I hope a lot of the players are less nervous and we can show what we’ve practiced and show the fans what we’ve prepared.

You said there were a few new players on this team. What do you think of your role as the IGL of this team?

Munchkin: Yeah, I am the in-game leader of the team but as a leader I think I am not the best and I have room to grow. So, although I am the IGL I wouldn’t say I am the leader of the team.

Do you think there was a lot to learn from after this loss?

Munchkin: Yeah I think we’re going to go back and look through some of the mistakes that were made during today’s game. I think the players have now experienced some of the emotions you feel when you are in game and so I think we can grow a lot off the back of today’s game.

Your next series will be against Havan Liberty. Do you have any thoughts before going into this matchup?

Munchkin: Yeah, I know them as the second seed team from Brazil and we wathed their game against 100 Thieves last night. We feel that we could definitely have what it takes to beat them.

Best of luck with that, Munchkin, and thank you for the interview!
